Candidates will be required to demonstrate various surf rescues, basic first aid skills, supervision skills in an open water environment and identifying potential risks.

Course Content

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • SLSA signals
  • Risk Assessment analysis
  • Recognise appropriate safe beach zones
  • Basic first aid skills relevant to the aquatic environment
  • Various rescues techniques including tube and body board rescues
  • 200m run / 200m swim / 200m run (8 minute time limit)
  • 400m swim recognisable stroke (9 minute time limit)
  • Online learning modules
  • Radio Operations
  • Rescue Carries

Assessment

Candidates will be required to complete fitness components, role-plays, oral questioning, practical demonstrations and performing scenarios.

Accreditation

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive their Bronze Medallion. The certificate is recognised by SLSA to be able to participate in Surf Life Saving patrol operations.

Validity

One (1) year from date of course. Refresher sessions will be provided each year by the club.
